The Stone Box (1827)

Often ignored in LDS history is the fate of the stone box in which the golden plates were deposited on Hill Cumorah and to which Joseph was led in 1827. When the Prophet Joseph Made his final visit to Hill Cumorah in the early morning hours of September 22, 1827 to retrieve the plates, he was accompanied by his young wife Emma. Why did Joseph take her? The answer is found in his visit to Cumorah the year previously, before he was married. Josiah Stowell's Daughters (1826)

Joseph Smith's trial in South Bainbridge on a charge of being a disorderly person in 1826 is well known.  Equally known is his acquittal as a result of the testimony of Josiah Stowell for whom he was working at the time.  Less known is the appearance in court of certain other witnesses for Joseph - two of Stowell's daughters with whom Joseph had "been keeping company."  They apparently gave satisfactory answers when asked about Joseph's...
