A Skeptical Minister (1820)

According to the Prophet Joseph's brother, William, the minister who prompted Joseph to ask the Lord which church to join was the Reverend George Lane. Both William and Oliver Cowdery stated that Reverend Lane had preached a sermon based on James 1:5 and that this sermon prompted young Joseph to enter the grove seeking answers. Allegedly this same Methodist minister later rebuked Joseph for claiming he received the answer he did. Ironically, Reverend Lane's older sister, Irene Lane Foote, later join the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and her LDS descendants are numerous today.

Proctor & Proctor, p. 106.
